Laptop Hard Drives

Did you know? Moving laptop while it's turned on can damage the hard drive and you could lose all the personal data? Think of a computer's hard drive as a record player, with a spinning disk and a reading/writing head. If a Laptop is moved too fast, bumped or dropped, the head can scratch the disk risking private data and possibly cause a laptop to start acting very strangely or run at a snails pace.

MYTECH Laptop Repairs and Serive ia able to check the hard drive in every Laptop we work on, ensuring it is not moments away from a minor or critical failure. If a failure has occurred we have two repair options.

Option 1 - The Quick Clone

MyTECH staff servicing team can often clone a drive to a brand new one leaving your Laptop looking exactly as it did before with all of the data intact. This option is Fast and Very Affordable, however it is not always achievable if the Hard Drive is too far damaged. If damaged hard drive is suspected, it is recommended you stop using the laptop immediately to avoid any data loss & to give us the best chance of using The Quick Clone option.

Option 2 - The Backup & Fresh Reload

When the Hard Drive in a Laptop is not able to be cloned, all attempta are made to recover personal files and store them safely as the first step to ensure we give the best chance of saving data. Next we install a new replacement hard drive and load the operating system back on. We fully update Windows or Mac OS and Install all the most commonly used applications. We restore data, reset e-mails back up and re-install any perviously used applications such as office suites & anti-virus programs etc. Ther Laptop is then delivered and we can set up any printers, internet connections or other devices normally used with any laptop.

MYTECH Advice:

Laptop Batteries Guess what, we are all doing it wrong! Laptop batteries, and Phone batteries for that matter, need to be charged and drained correctly. The correct procedures are:

Charge the battery to full
Unplug the charger once full
Drain to approx 10% before recharging
Plug in charger
Unplug the charger once full - repeat

The main thing to remember with Lithion Ion Batteries, is that when full charge has been reached we should unplug the charger as soon as possible. When continued to charge beyond this point it is feeding power into an already full vessel. Imagine water in a bottle, once the bottle is full, the water overflows. With a Lithion Ion battery this overflow has nowhere to go, creating excess heat & pressure, potentially damaging the battery. Note: It is also good to avoid partial charges and then using your Laptop or Phone. If your charge is at 50%, try leaving it until it is closer to 10% so that it gets a full, natural charge cycle - keeping the battery happy!
